FOUNDEd 2008
Saokio Heritage was founded by Indigenous women in 2008 in collaboration with the Piegan Institute and the late Darrell Robes Kipp on the Blackfeet reservation in Montana. We continue to be led by Indigenous women.
In the past 16 years we have worked on a variety of projects to protect our environment, revitalize traditional ecological knowledge, language and promote leadership. We work closely with elders in our community. Under their guidance we share their traditional ecological knowledge through presentations and workshops. And on social media we share with those who live outside of our traditional territory.
We are fortunate to be funded by individual donations & grants from regional and national foundations.
